Robert Wiggins

First Mate of the Catellina

Description:
Bio:

Wiggins is a solid maritime officer and an outstanding navigator. He was pressed into the crew of the English merchant Karen as a boy, and spent eight years on that vessel as a sailor. The officers of the Karen noticed young Wiggins observing the navigator’s charts, and tested his knowledge. Upon discovering that Robert understood the work of the navigator, the captain of the Karen made him an ensign. Wiggins proved to be a very able officer, and won a commission in the English Navy on board a ship named the Terror working his way to the position of First Mate and serving with distinction. Wiggins was arrested by authorities in Venice on charges of dueling, and was left behind by his ship in the prison of that great city. Wiggins grew bitter in jail, and was astonished when his bail was paid by Estevam Nunez. Wiggins came aboard the Catellina as Second Mate and has served Nunez ably for six years, replacing the First Mate upon that man’s retirement.
